Why you Need Engagement Photos!

You’ve got a ring on your finger and a fiance at your side, now you’re wondering if you should book engagement photos. The answer is a resounding YES! Aside from just being a blast in general, there are a ton of very real reasons that you should take engagement photos before your wedding day. Here’s why.

Mark the milestone

Getting engaged is a huge deal! For most people it only happens once, and it should be remembered! Taking an afternoon to remember this incredibly exciting and fun time in your life is a must as you get closer to your wedding.

Make it even more sentimental by going back to the place you got engaged, the place you had your first date, or even use it as an opportunity to scope out wedding spots! HERE are a few of my favorite locations in the bay area.

Fall in love with your photographer

Wedding photography is a huge investment. Making sure that you really love your photographer is so important. A great way to do this is to book an engagement session with the photographer you want to work with. Engagement photos give you time to learn how your photographer works, figure out if you vibe with them, and see how they capture you in their work. Don’t wait until your wedding day to find out if you like the way your photographer works.

Engagement photos also give your photographer a chance to learn more about you! How you want to be photographed, how to direct you, what you do and don’t like. The more I know about a couple on their wedding day, the better. Give me the chance to know you as best as I can by having an engagement session.

Get comfortable in front of the camera

Let’s face it, most of us aren’t professional models. We don’t spend loads of time in front of the camera. For many, being photographed can be very new and uncomfortable. I don’t want you to feel uncomfortable in your wedding photos. Engagement photos provide a special opportunity to learn how to loosen up in front of the camera. Truly, it’s a great way to decrease even more stress on your wedding day, especially if you are feeling camera shy.

Send out Save The Dates

Send out those keepsakes! Whether you plan to do Save The Dates or just invitations, having engagement photos to include on or with them really help personalize things. They get your guests excited for you, and give them a beautiful photo of their favorite couple to hold onto.

I might be a bit biased, but I can’t think of a good reason to skip engagement photos. They are really a must. Not only are they a great way to spend a day, but they do a lot to help make your wedding day better! From memorializing your engagement, to getting you EXCITED to be in front of the camera, they’re important!
